Portrait Photography
can create opportunities for biography and documentation of a person. It also creates depth, empathy, and encourages experimentation.
For some, portrait photography can be extremely challenging as it introduces a wildcard…. the "Model". This can be unpredictable and awkward for some photographers.
A good portrait photographer should elevate their work from a two dimensional photo to the art of communicating ideas and capturing the human subject with dignity, all while exploring the meaning and potential of portraiture.
During this workshop I'll share with you my 20+ years of commercial and travel portrait photography tips and 'How to get it right'. There will be ample time for practical exercises putting things to practice.
Some knowledge of basic camera controls and exposure will help you get the most out of this workshop.
TOPICS COVERED IN THIS WORKSHOP
- Tips and techniques for capturing the mood and essence of portraits.
- Working and dealing with light situations and the use of props.
- Planning and executing perfect shots.
- Understanding and working with your camera settings.
- Putting things into practice - 'live' shooting!
- A quick review of your images.

- The workshop fee is €100 which includes a half day of fun learning experience!
- There is a small contribution of €10 (modelling fee) per participant paid on the day itself.
- Sunday 13th April 2024. 13.00 - 17.00.
- Indoor interactive discussion and workshop followed by putting things into practice!
- You are encouraged to come with a small set of previous portraits shots for discussion.
- There will be a quick review of your practical work at the end of the workshop.
- This workshop is intended for those who have already done the Basic Photography Workshop OR have an understanding of photography exposures and working with their cameras in manual mode.
