The Art of Creative Composition. Composition refers to the way the various elements in a scene are arranged within the frame. To be creative, rules of composition are either broken or an exploration on how the elements can be re-arranged into an aesthetically pleasing image.



Composition or 'Creative Vision' is one of the most difficult things to visualise. It is a very personal relationship between the photographer and the subject. It is how a photographer puts a compelling story on a two dimensional photograph.


Everyone has a camera these days. So how you visually capture something that is also being photographed by other people right next to you will distinguish your work from others. Often, the technical side of an image is easier to learn. The one thing that separates a great image from another is the Creative Vision (a.k.a. Composition). 

My goal of teaching composition is not to create clone photographers of my style. Instead, I will share principles and thought processes which you will explore. At the end of this workshop, you will develop your own interpretation - the way you see the world in photography.

THE ART OF CREATIVE COMPOSITION WORKSHOP

This unique workshop takes place over 1 evening and an overnight weekend trip to Brugges and surrounding areas filled with discussion & outdoor practice.

Theory & Review of your images

Evening 1900-2130.

A relaxful evening of open discussion on the elements of  Composition and Creative Vision. Understanding mindfulness photography.

A glass of wine will be waiting for you to help your creative juices flow!


Review of your previous images.

Practical Exercise

Meet up at Central station 11.30am arriving in Brugges at noon.  

Drop off non-essential bags at hotel followed by simple lunch and start practising!

Photography outdoors till the light goes down.

Dinner and review.

End of day.

Early morning sunrise shoot.

Breakfast.

Quick Review.

Option - More outdoor shooting and return back to Brussels for more image reviews and discussion

Travelling costs (train, transport, meals, accomodation) are not included.


Plan a budget of  €45 per person at Snuffel Hostel  for  twin sharing beds which you pay directly to the hotel. 


Alternatively, you can also book another hotel of your choice.

  • Thursday evening + a weekend (Saturday - Sunday) in Bruges
  • Sometime in 12th October evening and weekend 14-15th October 2023. 
  • Indoor interactive discussion and workshop followed by a weekend of putting things into practice!
  • You are encouraged to come with a small set of previous photos (landscapes, people, cityscapes, etc) for discussion.
  • There will be a review of your practical work at the end of the workshop.
  • This workshop is intended for those who have already done the Basic Photography Workshop OR have an understanding of photography exposures and working with their cameras in manual mode.
